Beautiful Kitchen…just like a Morandi painting!

Previous Next

Well, I have a great job! One of the most gratifying moments is when I get to go and see the finished product – beautiful finished kitchens in all their glory – to take photos for our website testimonials and meet the happy owners. And much as the team, I’m sure, would like to claim all the accolade for their hard work – designing, suggesting, implementing, fitting – it is in fact the little personal touches the owners add that make them truly wonderful and unique. I had just such an experience when I went to visit Mrs. Benson’s finished kitchen in Balham. With the soft khaki grey of the Farrow & Ball “Stoney Ground” painted walls and our sensational ALNO Cashmere Grey Oak-Effect cabinets – it was like walking into a muddy, warm, enveloping embrace! For fear of sounding fey, I just wanted to sit down at the table, kick my shoes off and have a cuppa! Everything you want your kitchen to be, unless of course you have unwanted guests! Mrs. Benson’s kitchen had undergone building works and a huge sash window and a skylight from the utility room had been added and flooded the room with natural light. The honey coloured stone columns from the garden echoed the soft beige hues in the kitchen and the overall impact, whilst breathtaking was to immediately relax! Contrasting ALNO Shape cupboards in Light Grey, Gravel Grey solid quartz stone worktops and Urban Manhattan porcelain tile floors added to the wonderful simplicity of the tonal hues. But it was the contrasting effect of the old black wine bottles lined up on the tops of Mrs. Bensons cupboards as collected by her husband, a wine merchant, that prompted me what the great interior reminded me of – a Morandi painting! The Italian artist really was the master of subdued colours and subtle tones but it is his combining this with his subject matter – always of still lives using humble and every day kitchens objects that set him apart. Here’s to Morandi and Mr and Mrs Benson! And perhaps a nod to the lads for a job well done.
